06 WeCreate

Brand identity, a self-portrait, and a see-through pencil case

Three WeCreate briefs from Grade 10, each an exercise in designing for a real constraint: a biotech brand with no name yet, an identity assembled from personal symbols, and stationery that has to survive an exam-hall inspection.

Naming, logo and two full-page advertisements

Brand identity for a nanotech hearing aid

This project focuses on building a complete brand identity for a cutting-edge Shanghai biotech firm that has developed an invisible, nanotechnology-based hearing aid — a device designed to fit discreetly inside the ear, addressing hearing impairments with advanced bio-technological innovation.

Tasked with a team of three, our core objective was to guide the firm through the entire branding process, from defining the brand name and crafting a distinctive logo to designing two full-page advertisement prototypes that resonate with target audiences. The central tension was discretion: a product whose value lies in not being seen has to be advertised without ever showing itself.

Project Skill Sprint 2 — the identity board: the GeneWave-Tech name, the gene icon placed inside the logo, and the gradient ellipse that gives the mark depth.
Planning the first advertisement: who it is for, and why the main image on the poster is deliberately dark.
Concept notes for the second advertisement — ‘invisible & magic hearing aid’, ‘let me choose the music’, birds singing, and the ear as the product’s signature.
The finished advertisement — ‘In quiet moments, we create a wonderful sound’ — with the aid worn discreetly.

A Photoshop collage of the things that make an identity

Self-portrait in layers

This self-portrait is a layered digital collage created in Photoshop, weaving together visual symbols, text and natural imagery to represent the multifaceted aspects of my identity. Each element is chosen to reflect my interests, passions and the things that shape who I am.

The composition is anchored by a human head silhouette, which acts as a canvas for my inner world. Nestled in its centre is an open book — a symbol of learning, curiosity and intellectual growth, representing my passion for reading, studying and exploring new ideas. The right side is dominated by natural landscapes: a snowy winter scene with bare trees, a lush green meadow, crashing ocean waves and vibrant autumn maple leaves, all labelled NATURE in bright pink. That section reflects my connection to the outdoors, where I find peace, inspiration and grounding.

My self-portrait — an open book at the centre of the silhouette, and the natural world along the right side.

Designing a holder that can be inspected at a glance

An exam-legal pencil case

I used TinkerCAD to design a handy pencil case especially for examinations. Though common pencil cases are banned in tests, it is possible to design a holder that contains all stationery while also guaranteeing exam honesty — simply make the holder easy to see through.

I spent a whole afternoon measuring the length of each item of stationery and designing drafts on paper. The following week I had the final 3-D prototype: it marks space with fixed slots for all needed tools, with two clear faces that can be checked through at a single glance, so it would be impossible to forget any pencil. After that successful try I realised that every moment could be a chance to change my surroundings — and that systematically preventing the problem itself generates a more effective outcome.
